Kangna Ranaut


The spotlight was on Kangana Ranaut when she stepped into Gangster. Her curls, a thin frame, and a child-woman face all set her apart from other actresses.

Kangana
Kangana Amardeep Ranaut was born on 20 March 1984 in Bhambla, a village in Mandi District, Himachal Pradesh, India. She lived in Shimla and Chandigarh before moving to New Delhi. Her father Amardeep was a businessman while her mother Asha was a schoolteacher. She has an older sister called Rangoli and a younger brother, Akshit.

She did her schooling at the DAV Model School in Chandigarh. She went on to study at the Science College in Shimla and was interested in becoming a doctor. She moved to New Delhi and joined the Elite Modelling Agency but her modeling career did not take off. She also joined the Asmita Theater Group in 2003 and acted in several plays. She enrolled in Asha Chandra’s Acting School.

Kangana was dating Adhyayan Suman, son of actor Shekhar Suman and the couple had starred in Raaz – The Mystery Continues. However, they broke up in 2009. Aditya Pancholi accused the actress of using him to make it in Bollywood. Ranaut has maintained a stoic silence on the subject.

She was in a café when she was noticed by Anurag Basu and signed up for Gangster in 2005.

2006 Kangana Ranaut appeared onscreen for the first time as Simran, a small town girl with big dreams who falls in love with a gangster in Anurag Basu’s Gangster. She won the Filmfare Best Actress Award. In Mohit Suri’s Woh Lamhe she played the role of Sana which was said to be based on Parveen Babi.

2007 Kangana was part of Shakalaka Boom Boom and Anurag Basu’s Life in a Metro, which was a hit.

2008 Her first Tamil movie, Dhaam Dhoom, saw her as Shenba and was successful. In Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion, she played the part of Shonali, a model who loses herself to drugs.

2009 Kangana’s first release in 2009 was Mohit Suri’s Raaz – The Mystery Continues. Her performance received positive reviews.

2010 She will be seen with Bobby Deol in Roshan and with Hrithik Roshan in Kites. She is also working with Italian director Gilda Pianelli in the movie, Between the Night and the Moon.

The actress has been cast for the part of Madhubala/Sona in Once Upon a Time in Mumbai. Ranaut who has mostly played tragic characters will get a chance to show her comic side in No Problem with Sushmita Sen. She will also be a part of another comedy, Tanu Weds Manu with Madhavan. She might be seen as Barkha Dutt in Knock Out.

Isha Sharvani

Isha Sharvani was born in Gujarat on the 29th September 1985 to a famous Kathak dancer Daksha Seth and a pianist and Buddhist monk, Devissaro. She has a younger brother Tao.

Her parents set up The Academy for Art Research, Training and Innovation near Vellayani Lake, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

Isha mastered many dance forms and martial arts like Kathak, Kalaripayattu, Chhau, Mallakhamb and has performed in many shows in India and overseas.

Isha Sharvani dated cricketer Zaheer Khan though they broke off later.

2005 Subhash Ghai gave Sharvani a role in Kisna: The Warrior Poet as Lakshmi, in which she could use her dancing skills.

2006 She landed a part in Darwaza Bandh Rakho that was a flop. Rocky: The Rebel with Zayed Khan and Minissha Lamba also failed to do well, which was the same case with her other release Good Boy, Bad Boy.

2008 In Ajay Devgan’s production U, Me Aur Hum, she played the role of Natasha who is part of a blissful couple on a cruise. The movie was an average hit.

2009 In 2009, she played the star daughter Nicki Wadia in Zoya Akhtar’s Luck by Chance which was received well.

Isha Koppikar


Ishaa Koppikar is the Khallas girl whose acting skills take a backseat to her item girl repute even as she tries to move beyond it.

Basics on Ishaa
Ishaa was born on 19th September 1976 in Mumbai, India. Though born in the city where it all happens, Koppikar is a Mangalorean. She studied Life Science at the Ramnarain Ruia College.

After working with Gautam Rajadhyaksha, she got a chance to work in several commercials like Camay, Rexona, L’Oreal, Tips & Toes and Coca Cola. She is the face of Police Watches and Jewelry. She lent her presence to music videos like KK’s Patli Kamar and Bandish Projekt’s Bhor.

1998 to 2001 Ishaa Koppikar’s first movie was in Tamil called Kaadhal Kavithai (1998) with Prashanth, followed by Nenjinile (1999) with Vijay.

Her first Hindi movie was Fiza (2000) as Gitanjali. She was also seen in Kannada and Telugu movies in 2000 like Surya Vamsha and Nuvvu Vasthavani. In 2001, she acted in Pyaar Ishq Aur Mohabbat, Narassima among others.

2002 to 2005 Koppikar’s item numbers Khallas in Company and Ishq Samundar in Kante kept her in the spotlight in 2002. Her movies in 2003 were Pinjar with Urmila Matondkar; as Anita in Dil Ka Rishtaa and Prajwal Raman’s Darna Mana Hai.

Besides Rudraksh and Krishna Cottage, Koppikar was seen in Girlfriend in 2004 with a controversial story line. Her releases in 2005 included D, Kya Kool Hai Hum and Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya.

2006 to 2009 In 2006, Darna Zaroori Hai and 36 China Town did not do as well as Don – The Chase Begins Again. She played Phoolwati opposite Sohail Khan in Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute to Love (2007) and as a traditional wife Ashwini in Ram Gopal Verma’s Darling (2007).

In 2008, she was part of Hello, an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s One Night at the Call center as the aspiring model, Esha.

She will be seen in Jahnu Barua’s Har Pall in 2009 and as a crime lord in Ram Gopal Verma’s Shabri.

Amisha Patel


Amisha Patel made a splash with Kaho Na Pyaar Hai and later proved herself in Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.

Amisha Patel is a Gemini born on 9th June 1976 in Mumbai. Her parents are Amit Patel and Asha Patel. Actor Ashmit Patel is her brother. She is the grand-daughter of lawyer-politician Rajni Patel, who was also the Congress Committee President, Mumbai.
Her schooling was at Cathedral and John Connon High School, where she was the head girl. She left to Massachusetts to study economics at the Tufts University. She is even known to have won a gold medal for her paper on economics. She worked for Morgan Stanley before trying her hand at acting in theaters with Satyadev Dubey’s theater group.
Her conflicts with her family was publicized as she took legal measures against them.

Amisha Patel got lucky when Kareena Kapoor opted out of Hrithik Roshan’s debut Kaho Na Pyaar Hai (2000). The movie was a blockbuster and Amisha became famous overnight. She also worked her acting skills in the Telugu movie Badri with Pawan Kalyan.
In 2001, she gave a fantastic performance as Sakeena in Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. She won the Filmfare Special Performance Award. She worked with Hrithik Roshan again in Aap Mujhe Acche Lagne Lage (2002) that flopped. Humraaz (2002) was a hit.
She acted in several movies like Pudhiya Geethai (2003), Naani (2004), Elaan (2005), Narasimhudu (2005), Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005), Teesri Aankh (2006) and Aap Ki Kathir (2006).

Reema Sen


Reema is a well known South Indian actress who made her Hindi film debut with Hum Ho Gaye Aap Ke(2001) opposite actor Fardeen Khan.

PERSONAL
Reema Sen was born on 29th October 1981 in Kolkata, India. She has done her schooling in Kolkata and later moved to Mumbai with her family, where she began her career inmodelling.

FILM CAREER
Reema started her career as a model where she appeared for many advertising campaigns in Mumbai. Her first film was a low budget Telugu film, Chitram, in which her co-star was Uday Kiran. It was a love story where Reema returns to India from U.S.A along with her sister to get admitted in a college. Her next film was in Tamil called Minnale where Reema played the role of Reena, a college girl.

Later she considered entering the Hindi film industry but her movie Hum Ho Gaye Na was a super flop and she decided to continue her career in Tamil movies. After a long time she found success in a Tamil movie, Rendu, which was directed by Sundar C and her co-stars were Madhavan, Anushka Shetty, Bhagyaraj, and Vadivelu.

ACHIEVEMENTS
Reema won a Filmfare Best Female Debut (Tamil) in 2000 for her film Minnale.

CONTROVERSY
Reema was accused in the court along with Shilpa Shetty in April 2006, for indecent exposure in the photographs which were published in a Tamil newspaper by Mr. Karunanidhi's family. She was in trouble in December 2005 as her photographs were considered obscene.

Genelia D'Souza

Genelia D’Souza, also known as Harini to close friends, was born on 5 August 1987 in England to a Mangalore Catholic family. Her parents are Jennifer and Neil. She has an older brother. She grew up in Mumbai.

Her school days were spent in Apostolic Carmel High School, Mumbai while she spent her college days at St.Andrews College to pursue a degree in management studies. She is known to be a state level athlete and a national level player.

Her claim to fame started with commercials like Parker pen with Amitabh Bacchan and Fair & Lovely with Krishnamachari Srikanth.

In 2003, she started her career with three movies – the Hindi movie Tujhe Meri Kasam; the Tamil movie Boys; the Telugu movie Satyam. She worked opposite Ritesh Deshmukh in Tujhe Meri Kasam, which was a remake of Telugu movie, Nuvve Kavali, and saw an average response. Boys, on the other hand, was a hit, as was Satyam.

She built up her popularity in the South with Telugu movies like Samba (2004), Subash Chandra Bose (2005), and Sye (2005). She was recognized for her performance in Bommarillu in 2006 with several awards. The movie was remade successfully in Tamil as Santosh Subramaniam (2008).

The year 2008 saw her trying to pave her way into Bollywood in Priyadarshan’s Mere Baap Pehle Aap and the year’s hit Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. The movie which was the debut of Aamir Khan’s nephew Imran Khan received a lot of publicity and her role as the unrestrained Meow shined through.

Following this success, Genelia was seen in Sasirekha Parinayam (2009), Life Partner (2009), and Katha (2009).

What’s Next?
Genelia replaced Jiah Khan in Chance Pe Dance (2010) with Shahid Kapoor. She plays a choreographer in this movie. Next in line is Hook Ya Crook, a movie about cricket and criminals. In the Telugu movie, Orange, she will be see with Ram Charan Teja. In Anees Bazmee’s It’s My Life she is cast opposite Harman Baweja. It is a remake of Bommarillu.

Riya sen


Riya Sen’s tantalizing looks and a lineage that boasts of royals and actors like Suchitra Sen and Moon Moon Sen made sure that she sashayed into tinsel town.

Riya Dev Verma is an Aquarian born on 24th January 1981 in Kolkata, West Bengal. Her father is Bharat Dev Verma belonging to the royal family of Tripura and her mother is Moon Moon Sen, a former actress. Her sister Raima Sen is also an actress. Her maternal grandmother is Suchitra Sen, a renowned actress in Bengali cinema. Her paternal grandmother was the Princess of Cooch Behar and Maharani of Jaipur Gayatri Devi’s sister. On her maternal side, her great-great-grandfather Dinanath Sen was the Diwan of the Maharaja of Tripura.

Riya has appeared in ads for Colgate, Dabur Vatika, Reliance, Cadbury’s, Limca and Nirma. She has been the cover girl for magazines like Elle, Cosmopolitan, Gladrags, Femina and Maxim. She stirred conservative feathers when she struck a semi-nude pose for Daboo Ratnaani’s annual calendar.

At sixteen, she looked gorgeous in Falguni Pathak’s music video “Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi”. She was a music video favourite as she appeared in Asha Bhonsle’s Jhumka Gira Re, Sonu Nigam’s Jeena Hai Tere Liye, Shaan’s Sutta Maro and others.

Riya Sen’s Movies
Riya played the character of Nishi as a child in the movie Vishkanya (1991) which starred her mother Moon Moon Sen.

In 1991, she acted in two Tamil movies Taj Mahal and Good Luck both of which fell flat. She appeared in the comedy Style (2001) which did pretty well. Jhankaar Beats, a tribute to R.D.Burman in 2002 was popular. In 2004, she appeared in item numbers in Plan and the Tamil movie Arasatchi.

In 2005, she played Bhama in Santhosh Sivan’s Ananthabadram, a Malayalam movie, which won awards and commercial success. She was seen in Shaadi No.1, Silsilay and an English language movie It Was Raining One Night.
Apna Sapna Money Money (2006) showed her as Shivani and danced to an item song in Heyy Babyy (2007). She tried her hand in Telugu movies with Neenu Meeku Telusa in 2008 and Heroes with Salman Khan and Preity Zinta that was a moderate success.
She has worked with her sister Raima Sen in a Bengali movie The Bachelor, which is yet to be released.
